Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar reckons the art of Chasing In the Indian Cricket History was brought by one of the most successful players in the Indian team in last two decades.
While taking to the Hindustan Times, Ajit Agarkar recalled some famous memories from the past in which MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh redefined the art of Chasing In the modern-day Cricket which later on many teams have started following the same concept of Chasing after Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh being very successful in the chasing.
“Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh changed the concept of chasing in ODIs. They were so good at it that after their success, other teams also started to field first on winning the toss.”
Ajit Agarkar recalls out two famous matches of India team When they have successfully chase it down the target. One of the matches was against Sri Lanka in 2005 at Jaipur When MS Dhoni played one of the best knocks of his career to clear the signs that his era has begun 183 runs off 148 balls to successfully chase the target of 298 while coming to bat at No.3
The second times it was against Pakistan in 2006 at Lahore when these two star players put on century stand partnership to put his back into the hunt where Dhoni scored 72 runs off 46 balls and Yuvraj Singh scored 79 runs 87 balls.
“His 183 not out (145 balls) versus Sri Lanka at Jaipur (2005) and the chase at Lahore (ODI vs Pakistan, 2006)—Sri Lanka had posted a massive total (298/4) and Dhoni batted at No. 3 and won it. The atmosphere in the dressing room went crazy when he started smashing sixes (10). At Lahore too, Pakistan had posted a very good total (288/8) and their bowlers were in fine rhythm. Dhoni finished it off (72* off 46 balls) with a big partnership with Yuvraj.”
Ajit Agarkar further added, the approach of chasing in ODIs brought by these two stalwarts of India team have changed the mind set of opposition teams after having good score on the board while batting first.

Ajit Agarkar further added, player like Dhoni comes once in a very long time and I am fortunate enough to be the part of dhoni team. Ajit Agarkar said the calm and composed nature of Dhoni remained same throughout his career.
“He is a lovely guy who would get along with everyone in the dressing room. He has stayed that way. Whenever he meets, he is very courteous.”
Ajit Agarkar has played 191 ODIs for team India in which he bagged 281 wickets and also having fast half-century in ODIs on his name and was the part of Sri Lanka toured in India 2005 and India toured of Pakistan 2006.
