India get record 15th Olympic quota in shooting

Indian teenage shooter Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar sacked India’s 13th Olympic quota in shooting with a bronze in men’s 50m rifle 3 positions at the fourteenth Asian Championship on Sunday, giving the nation its best-ever Olympic quota.

India had 11 shooters at the 2012 London Olympics and 12 in Rio de Janiero in 2016.

The 18-year-old Tomar shot 449.1 in the eight-man last to complete third on the platform behind gold medallist Kim Jonghyun (459.9) of Korea and Chinese Zhonghao Zhao (459.1) at the Lusail Shooting Complex.

He had managed to the finals of the event with a score of 1168 in the 120-shot qualifying. There were three quotes on offer on the event.

Mairaj Ahmed and Angad Bajwa earned India’s fourteenth and fifteenth standards in the skeet last somewhat later. They won silver and gold in the Asian Championship last.
