When Rajasthan royals (RR) went against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the game number 50th of cash-rich league. It was do and die situation for Rajasthan royals (RR) to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs. But this time around they have been facing Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who has been phenomenal in their last few games.
History says pressure reveals the picture of every team and this time Rajasthan Royals (RR) proved the authority and there is no better team than him under the pressure along with do and die situation.
Not only Rajasthan royals (RR) keeps their hopes alive but they have win very easily on the back of their best batting line-up in the tournament. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) once failed to find the right combination of the team and lost the crucial game before the playoffs by 7 wickets.
Now from here they have one game left which they have to play against CSK and if they win they still have to wait for other results. Having said, let us take a look at three things that went wrong for KXIP.
Kings XI Punjab fell short of 20-25 runs
After losing the toss Kings XI Punjab was invited by Rajasthan Royals skipper to bat first. Kings XI Punjab lost the opener at the score 1/1 and looked in the complete trouble before KL Rahul and Chris Gayle put on 120 run partnership for the second wicket to put the team back into the game.
With 162/2 at one stage Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) only managed to score 185 runs with the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The score which at one stage was looking for 200 plus easily couldn’t managed to go par even 190 plus and in the end Kings XI Punjab lost the game.
Kings XI Punjab not playing with best XI
This was the biggest mistake done by KXIP team towards the end of the league phase. If Kings XI Punjab failed to reach playoffs after winning its next game then this loss would be reason of this. Team can’t expect it best players to be unfit or keep on experimenting with the players.
What is point of trust on the player like Glenn Maxwell if he is not able to score in the last few games. Keeping players like Mayank Aggarwal, Sheldon Cottrell, Karun Nair, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and James Neesham you can’t have expect team to make you win matches with unexperience lads and blokes in the team.
Kings XI Punjab has no depth in bowling
Batting first Kings XI Punjab posted 185 runs on the board on the backs of KL Rahul 46 runs off 41 balls and Chris Gayle 63-ball 99 which featured 6 fours and 8 sixes to help team posted a fighting total against Rajasthan royals.
Rajasthan royals started the chase and they were set the world on fire with 60/1 in 5.3 overs and assure the opposition that we are in this chase in which Ben stokes scored 26-ball 50 which featured 6 fours and 3 sixes. The rest of the work was done by Sanju Samson (48) and Robin Uttappa (30).
With 145/3 Kings XI Punjab looked back into the game but Steve Smith and Jos butler who both remained unbeaten on 31* off 20 balls and 21* off 11 balls respectively to take his team to comfortable victory by 7 wickets.
