Muthaih Muralitharan 10-Wickets against England in 2006

It was Sri Lanka tour of England for 3-match test series which was later ended with no result and draw with 1-1. But in the ODI (5-0) and T20l (1-0), Sri Lanka has white washed the hosts (England) convincingly. In Test series, Muthaih Muralitharan was the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets in 2 tests and was declared player of the series with Kevin Pietersen who scored 360 runs in 2 test matches. While in the ODI fixtures, upul tharanga was the leading run scorer with 347 runs with Lasith Malinga (13) wickets.

The two sides were lead Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) and Andrew Flintoff (England). The first test match was ended with draw in which Mahela Jayawardene was awarded with Man of the match after England enforced the follow on over Sri Lanka when they bowled out at the score of 192 runs in the first innings after England score 551 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and declared their first innings.

But Sri Lanka saved the test match with the brilliant century of captain Mahela Jayawardene (119) in the second innings as England only managed to picked up 9 wickets of Sri Lanka who 537 runs in the second innings. Coming into the second test match, England won the test match by 6 wickets with the brilliant century of Kevin Pietersen (142) in the first innings.

From the Sri Lanka, Muthaih Muralitharan 6 wickets in the first innings and 4 wickets in the second innings was the highlight the match. Who tried very hard to win the test match but couldn’t get support of his teammates. England with 1-0 up in the series was confident to win the final test match but Sri Lanka had other ideas who has defeated England by 134 runs in the final test match. Muthaih Muralitharan picked up 8 wickets for 70 runs in the second innings. England with the target of 324 runs in the second innings looked possible but spin magician Muthaih Muralitharan bamboozled the hosts and level the series by 1-1.
