NZ vs PAK, 1st T20l, Auckland – 2 Reasons Why Pakistan Has Lost The First T20l?

After humiliating West Indies across the formats in their own domain New Zealand is all set to hosts 3 T20ls and 2 Tests against Pakistan from 18 December. The test series will be part of inaugural ICC Test Championship 2019-21.

The first game of T20l series was played at Eden Park, Auckland on Friday. New Zealand was about miss the services of Kane Williamson and in his absence Mitchell Santner was appointed as a captain for New Zealand while for Pakistan Shadab Khan had lead his side for the first-time-ever in the T20l fixture.

Even the New Zealand was playing with their B-team against Pakistan in the first game but still the opposition was unable to beat them where the expectations were high from Pakistan to win the game on very easy note.

After winning the toss Pakistan decided to bat first with no intent when they have lost the 5 wickets under the score of 39 runs but lower order put some fight with Shadab Khan to take the scoreboard to 153 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs.

In reply, New Zealand easily chase down the target with seven balls to spare and 5 wickets in hands. Tim Seifert from New Zealand was leading run-scorer in the run-chase who scored 57 runs while the debutant for New Zealand Jacob Duffy picked up 4 wickets for 33 runs and awarded with Man of the Match. Having said, let us take a look at the two reasons why Pakistan has lost the first T20l game.

DECISION TO BAT FIRST BACK-FIRED AFTER THE EARLY COLLAPSE

If the team has lost against the B-team of opposition then captain has to face the obvious criticisms for the choices he has made during the match. Although, New Zealand pitches are ideal for batting but still Pakistan couldn’t able to score more than 153 runs in the 20 overs after winning the toss.

Pakistan has lost the first wicket at the score of 8/1 before they emerge out from this dent they have lost another four wickets under the score of 31 runs to make the scoreboard look like 39/5.

Although the captain Shadab Khan (42) and Faheem Ashraf (31) fought back to take the scoreboard to over 150 runs and set the decent target for the opposition who was not playing with their regular players.

The debutant Jacob Duffy rose to the occasion and picked up 4 wickets to restrict the tourists at the low score. In reply New Zealand has easily chase down the target in the 19th over with 5 wickets in hands to take 1-0 lead in a 3-match series.

ABSURD DECISIONS IN THE SECOND INNINGS FROM PAKISTAN CAPTAIN

The first big reason for the defeat was calling the experience bowler like Wahab Riaz (who went wicket less in 3.5 overs for 45 runs) after the 10 overs was completed when New Zealand required less than 100 runs to chase and 7 wickets in hands.

However New Zealand got the worst start when they lost Martin Guptill at the score of 8/1 to Shaheen Afridi and soon after he removed Devon Conway at the score of 21/2 to put the opposition at the backfoot.

Even the players like Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim couldn’t completed their spells of 4-overs was another reason they have drifted the momentum towards New Zealand after the early breakthroughs given by Shaheen Afridi. Tim Seifert kept the one end while made the crucial partnerships with the other batsman to chase down the target in the 19th over.
