The first day of test match ended up in the favour of bowlers who have picked up 14 wickets in both first innings of respective sides. The Visitors (South Africa) earlier won the toss and decided to bat first at the National Stadium, Karachi of 2-match test series. South Africa only manage to score 220 runs in the first innings with major contribution from Dean Elgar (58).
But with the start of Pakistan first innings, the situation don’t change for the batsman before Pakistan lost 4 wickets at the score of 33 runs by the end of day 1 play. But Pakistan started the day 2 at Karachi confidently and with the brilliant century from Fawad Alam (109) and consodalited knocks from Azhar Ali (51) and Faheem Ashraf (64) down the order rescue the team after the early hiccups.
Pakistan ended the day 2 at 309 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and get the crucial lead of 88 runs in the first innings. The hosts on day 3 morning session get the vital lead of 158 runs in the first innings before they all out at 378 runs in the first innings. From 33/4 to 378/10, Pakistan must be happy with their performance and resilience shown by the lower order batsman.
South Africa will now definitely look to fight back in the second innings to give the impossible target of 350 plus runs in the fourth innings of a match. But it is totally depend on the top-order and middle order batsman of South Africa to bat them during the third day and two sessions of day 4 before declare the second innings.
For Pakistan, this is chance to bowl them at the lowest score so that they can chase the modest target to get vital lead in the series.
